Activity 1 - Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar

• Print or copy out the questions. (worksheet Activity 1  download)
• Choose the correct option
• Read your answers aloud to check that they are correct.

 

 

Activity 2 – Comprehension

• Print off or read on screen and record your answers on a piece of paper.
• Read then answer the questions.
• Finally, check that you are happy with your answers.

 

Activity 3

Look at the pictures provided. You have been given a special key to unlock one of the pictures to jump right in!

1. Unlock one of the pictures.
2. Record which number image it is.
3. Immerse yourself in the picture. Maybe you could listen to a piece of relaxing music?
4. Once you have spent a few moments thinking, answer the following questions - Where is this place? What can you see? What can you smell? What can you touch? What can you hear? What can you taste? You could use the table attached. Try to write down your immediate responses.
5. Once completed, try to see if you can up-level any of your responses (improve word choices) to help to create a vivid image of the place you are in for those who cannot see it.

Now can you create your own full sentences about your picture? Try to include at least one sentence relating to each sense.

Success Criteria

• Use adventurous vocabulary
• Use adjectives
• Use 2 adjectives to describe a noun
• Include all 5 senses

Finally, create your own setting description. This could be based on this picture, Canvey Seafront, or another place by the sea which you have visited.

Make sure that you

• Use adventurous vocabulary
• Use adjectives
• Use 2 adjectives to describe a noun
• Include all 5 senses
• Up- level at least one word.

 

Remember to read it back to make sure that it makes sense.

Challenge – include a simile. E.g. The sapphire, shiny water swished elegantly in and out like a dancing ballerina.

Once finished, perhaps you could read it to someone and see if they can draw your setting. Does it look like you imagined?

Remember – the more detailed your description the easier the person should find drawing it!
