Curriculum

We have lots of exciting topics in year 3.

In the autumn term we will be investigating the history of our earth; from dinosaurs to early humans. As part of this topic we have arranged a special palaeontology day and later this year (spring term) a trip to experience Iron Age life at Hadleigh Roundhouse.

In the spring term we will be learning about Rivers and Bridges and early Settlements.

In the summer term we will be finding out about the history of Toys and conducting a local geographical and historical project based around Southend.  More details to follow!

Attendance

Attending school, on time, every day is very important – letters to follow with exciting attendance initiatives.

Clubs

There will be a number of clubs running this year for year 3 – look out for the club lists and letters to sign up to the exciting clubs offered.

Children’s University

Congratulations to everyone who has earned University Hours.  Hours can be earned at most school clubs and many clubs in the local area (see the Children’s University website: http://www.childrensuniversity.co.uk

Homework Club

This club runs every Thursday and Friday after school from 3.00-3.30pm for Year 3 and 4. The children go straight to the club after school and are picked up from the double doors in the link corridor. Busy Bears children will be collected at 3:30pm.

Snacks

In Key Stage 2, the children are welcome to bring a healthy snack to eat during their break time or they can purchase a snack from the tuck trolley, prices from 10p. Children should not bring in more than 50p for tuck.

Uniform

Children should wear a red polo shirt, red sweatshirt, black trousers or black skirt and black footwear.

Homework

As well as creative homework, which is given every half term, there will be maths, reading and spelling homework. A separate homework letter with more details will follow.

Spellings

Spellings are completed on a weekly basis. They will be handed out on Mondays and the children will be tested on the following Monday. Children will be provided with a spelling book to practise their spellings.  Please support your children to practise their spellings at home

Reading

At this age it is very important that children read regularly at home. Children are expected to read at least three times a week to an adult at home. Reading at home will be celebrated and rewarded!

There will be daily lunchtime reading sessions which can count towards the 3 times a week target.

We also look forward to welcoming you to our successful afternoon Reading Café sessions – details and dates to follow.

P.E

Year 3 will be having indoor PE lessons on Monday afternoons and outdoor PE lessons on Thursday (3C) Friday (3HW) afternoons.

Please ensure your child has a clearly labelled P.E. Kit in school at all times. The kit should include: a red or white t-shirt, black shorts, plimsolls or trainers, jogging bottoms and a warm top.

Please make sure that earrings are not worn on P.E. days, as jewellery cannot be worn during PE lessons. Long hair needs to be tied back.

Lockers

As locker space is limited, please ensure your child only has a P.E. bag and appropriately sized bag in school for their reading books and diary.

Your child does not need a pencil case or any other equipment.  Please ensure your child does not bring toys to school.  Please not fidget spinners are not allowed in school
