Year 3 2019-20

Class teachers in Year 3 this year are Miss Graham (3G) and Mrs Young (3Y).

Mrs Hughes and Mrs Ridley will be teaching an English, Reading and Maths set.

Our Creative Curriculum

To start the year, in the Autumn term, we will be learning about ‘Extreme Earth’ and ‘Poles Apart’. Our first topic will incorporate an exciting trip to the Natural History Museum!

In the Spring term, we will be investigating the history of our earth; from dinosaurs to early humans. As part of this topic, we have arranged a trip to Hadleigh Roundhouse and a special palaeontology day. Children will experience what life was like in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.

In the Summer term, we will be finding out about our local geographical area, ‘Sunrise on the Thames’, and exploring ‘Life by the Sea’.

More details to follow!

Attending school, on time, every day is very important – letters to follow with exciting attendance initiatives. Mrs Hull, our attendance officer, will be rewarding classes and children with certificates and prizes.

As well as creative homework, which is given every half term, there will be maths, reading and spelling homework. A separate homework letter with more details will follow.

Super Spellings

Spellings are completed on a weekly basis. They will be handed out on Mondays and the children will be tested on the following Monday. Children will be provided with a spelling book to practise their spellings.  Please support your children to practise their spellings at home

Exciting Online Practise

In addition, children can practise spelling and times tables online via ‘Spelling Shed’, ‘Maths Shed’ and ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’.

At this age it is very important that children read regularly at home. Children are expected to read at least three times a week to an adult at home. Reading at home will be celebrated and rewarded!

There will be daily lunchtime reading sessions which can count towards the 3 times a week target.

We also look forward to welcoming you to our successful afternoon Reading Café sessions – details and dates to follow.

There will be a number of clubs running this year for year 3 – look out for the club lists and letters to sign up to the exciting clubs offered.
