Year 5 2019-20
Welcome to a new school year.
The teachers this year are Miss German (5G) and Mrs Carroll (5VC).
The children will be taught in three sets for Mathematics and English, with Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Pye-Mingard teaching the extra set. Additionally, Year 5 are lucky enough to have Mrs Watts, Mrs Shepherd, Mrs Cramer and Mrs Johnson.
Throughout the year, the children will cover lots of exciting new topics as they embark upon a year of exploration! We will become Vikings, astronauts, scientists and inventors and virtual travellers on expeditions to Ancient Egypt and Africa. These topics will inspire a range of creative art and DT projects… and hopefully spark a lot of questions and curiosity!
Special events in Year 5 include a trip to London, trips to the local secondary schools and a variety of engaging themed days.
As a school we aim to continue to improve attendance this year. Please help us by ensuring your child is in school on time and ready to learn. Doors open at 08:45.
Please send your child to school with a healthy packed lunch (no fizzy drinks, sweets or chocolate bars) or send £2 in a named envelope for school dinner if you haven’t paid using parent pay. Children can bring in up to 50p to buy a snack from the tuck trolley if they wish.
Useful curriculum information
The children will be participating in Walk a Mile on a Monday.
Outdoor PE is on a Tuesday.
Indoor PE is on a Wednesday.
Forest school will be on selected Fridays. Further details of class dates to follow.
Please make sure your child has the correct kit, labelled with their name, which stays in school until the holiday when it will be sent home for a wash!
The children will be given half termly creative homework which will be celebrated as a year group at the end of each half term.
In addition to this, the children will receive an overview of the objectives they will be covering in maths in order for them to continue their learning at home. We offer a homework club straight after school on a Wednesday if you wish for your child to attend. The children are expected to read at home 3 times each week. Please record this in their diaries so they can be rewarded.
In year 5, we offer a range of exciting clubs to allow the children to collect hours for their Children’s University Passport. We look forward to seeing your child graduate in the near future.
Spellings will continue to be sent home every week on a Monday, with the test occurring on following Monday. Please ensure the home spelling book is back in school for the day of the spelling test.
