The Learning Support Assistants are Mrs Jeffryes, Ms Harper, Mrs Clarke, Mrs Bird and Miss Andrews. We are looking forward to teaching your children and supporting them through this challenging yet rewarding year!
This year we will be studying World War 2, Harry Potter and Ancient Greece. As part of our first topic we are planning an exciting World War 2 day, on October 10th where the children will be invited to dress up in a costume from this era (a letter regarding this will follow).
Later in the year, we are planning a trip to the Warner Bro’s Studio to view the film sets – more details will follow.
During the Summer Term, we look forward to studying the Ancient Greeks.
Homework will start week commencing 10th September. Children will receive Maths and English homework every week. English will be set on a Monday and handed in on Wednesday. Maths will be set on a Wednesday and due in on a Friday.
Spellings are part of the homework policy. They will be set and tested on a weekly basis. Children will be provided with a spelling book in which they are expected to practise their spellings daily. Spellings are handed out and tested each Friday
It is essential that your child reads at home at least three times a week. For meeting this challenge, your child will be rewarded. Reading cafes will continue this year – dates to follow.
P.E/ Forest School
On a Tuesday morning, 6R will participate in indoor PE lessons. 6B and 6E indoor PE lessons will be on Wednesday mornings. On a Thursday, Year 6 will alternate between outdoor PE lessons and Forest School sessions so please ensure that your child has a clearly labelled P.E. Kit in school at all times. The kit should include: a red or white plain t-shirt, black shorts, plimsolls or trainers, jogging bottoms and a warm top. Please ensure that earrings are not worn on P.E. days, as all jewellery must be removed during PE lessons. Long hair needs to be tied back A letter will follow advising which Thursday’s your child will require a Forest School kit.
Children’s University/ Clubs
As we are sure you are aware, Children’s University is a fantastic way for your child to develop their extra-curricular interests both in and out of school. If your child is not currently participating it is not too late to join and benefit from the range of exciting clubs we have on offer! Further information to follow.
This club runs after school from 3.00-3.30pm and Year 6 children are welcome to attend Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to complete homework whilst still at school.
Year 6 will sit their SATS tests during the week beginning 13th May. More details regarding these tests will follow and a meeting will be arranged during the Spring Term.
Children will be rewarded for good behaviour on a weekly basis during our Golden Time sessions.
Year 6 is an important year so it is fundamental that your child has good attendance throughout the year in order to cover the entirety of the curriculum.
Open days for the local Secondary schools will be within the next few weeks. It is vital that you attend these in order to make an informed decision about where your child will attend next year. It is the parent’s responsibility for applying to secondary school and applications must be received by October 31st.
