Spring Term

Year 2 received a late Christmas present at the start of the term. We quickly realised that the package had been sent to the wrong Northwick Park. It was meant to be sent to Northwick Park lane in Australia! Inside the present were three koalas. We decided that we were going to look after them and learn as much as we could about Australia. We sent a letter to the address on the package to let them know that the koalas were safe with us in Year 2.

During our Australia topic we learnt about the continents and oceans of the world in our Geography lessons. We learnt many facts about famous Australian landmarks and were able to locate them on a map. We also developed a range of skills and techniques in art. We particularly enjoyed dot painting to make our own turtles and rain makers.

In Science, we had some special visitors. Firstly, we had a rabbit and a dog in the classroom to support our learning about animals' basic needs. Lastly, one of our teachers brought in their baby to discuss how she looks after her new born.

Spring 2 -

At the start of the half term we received a mysterious package labelled ‘fragile’. We carefully opened the box and found an alien inside called Ally. Along with the package, there was a letter from Helen Sharman; who was the first British person to go to space. During this topic, we learnt about the history of space travel and watched videos from the 1969 moon landing. We also created our own planets using shaving foam and paint to create a marbling effect.

Year 2’s favourite moment from the topic was the visit from the space dome. Inside the space dome, the children had an interactive experience which felt like they were actually in space!

In Science, we continued our learning about animals. We learnt about the life cycle of  a frog and enjoyed exploring the school's pond to see the frogspawn grow into tadpoles.
